Mia Rio is a new breed of Pop artist. The Brazilian-born singer combines vibey and catchy Pop sounds with meaningful, positive and/or conscious lyrics. She believes Pop music can evolve from its traditional “sex sells” formula and offer more substantial content without losing its Pop appeal. Being often stereotyped as the booty shaking – and soccer playing – type of woman due to her nationality, Mia stands against the stereotype, making sure her music and image showcase the classier side of a tropical queen. Mia Rio releases her brand new single TODAY, and we got the inside scoop on what went into this new single, right here on Entertwine!

Tell us about your BRAND NEW release, “Dynamite Love” available today February 13th! I wrote this in a time when I decided to get out of my discouragement and going back to doing music full force and doing it right, being everything I believe I was born to be. And I felt I finally found the sound I’ve been looking for, so I got this sense of finding myself in a way, as if I’ve been back from the dead. I kinda want to encourage this same sense of feeling alive on people.

What is your main goal for this single? This is an introductory track, it explains who I am in the sense that it brings the warmth I want to communicate. Music is a soul thing to me. I want to communicate my soul to people, and I want to make sure mine is healthy in order to bring positivity to whoever listens to it.

What was the recording and writing process like for you? How was it different than past work(s) or recordings? This was the first time I wrote in my bedroom along with the producer. I sat on the bed, under the covers, in PJs and socks. He sat on my desk with gas station coffee. All our gear was all over the bed and floor, a bar stool was our keyboard stand, and we actually recorded the whole song in my closet. My closet is, like, recording paradise. Not your ideal environment but we were excited to get inspiration from a humble beginning.

Who were some of your main influences when working on this release? Although I use the word “baby” in this song, it’s not about a person. Many types of people or things or places can be personified as your “baby”. In this case, it was God.

What is next for you in 2017? An EP is in the works and will follow this initial work and I’m hoping we can get some international sounds in the mix, and execute them well. I get a lot of love from overseas so I want them to feel special, bringing some of their country’s influence into my music a bit more.
