Born in the year of ’89, native Floridian Jermaine Lockett (2Millie), was born and destined to shine. 2Millie is driven and motivated by his daughter, and keeps his promise to provide a stable and financial life for his family, all while doing what he loves – music. He says the two (music and family) represent the second chance he has at life because it was almost cut short in a car accident during the 6th grade. Millie is the amount of money 2Millie would like to make one day in order to ultimately achieve and surpass his goal. We caught up with 2Millie and got to know a little bit more about his journey, and where he sees his career turning next!
Entertwine: Could you tell us a bit about your musical background? What inspired you to begin creating music in the first place? What is the significance of your stage name?
2Millie: Well, I’m 2millie, and I have been writing music since I was 16, didn’t start recording until I was 20. That’s when I did my first mixtape, “Fuck With Me.” I have always loved to do music. It has helped me get through a lot of pain & sleepless nights – I just wanted to be apart of the healing process for people by sharing my story of things I went through hoping it can help someone get threw the night. Two is the the second chance at life because it was almost cut short in a car crash when I was in the 6th grade, which left a scare on the left side of my head and millie is just for the motivation to keep going and never stop I mean money is the reason why people get up to do anything so why not call myself something that always will remain me to get up and work.
ET: What is the music scene of Miami, Florida like? How has the area shaped you, both personally and musically?
2Millie: The music scene out here is great there is a lot of good local talent out here that is waiting to be discovered. The city of Miami have made me more of a closed person. I saw so much back stabbing and friends turning on friends and it just really made not trust anyone. I share some of the feelings and my music as well.
ET: What life experiences and events led to the writing and recording of your latest release “F*ck With Me 2”? What are the differences between your two mixtapes? What about the similarities? Did similar situations or scenarios inspire them both?
2Millie: When I was writing “F*ck With Me 2” I just wanted to to heard. I was a little upset that my music was being looked over by people, so some of the music on the mixtape is angry. I also flipped it in had some party music, love songs, and life experiences in there. All in all, I feel like it is a good mixtape all around. The difference between the two I think, would be the development. I think over the year between the two, I have gotten better at everything. I mean the work speaks for itself. Listen to “F*ck With Me,” then listen to “F*ck With Me 2,” and you will see. I don’t think there are to many similar things in the two mixtapes, they’re both great in their own way…I wrote them both at different times in my life.
ET: What was it like filming the music video for your song ‘What You Know’?
2Millie: It was an amazing feeling! It was my first video, so I was ready to do something big. I also want to do a little acting as well in my career, so being in front of the camera for the first time was a great feeling and it really let me know that I can do this.
ET: What do the remaining months of 2014 hold in store for 2Millie?
2Millie: In the next couple of months you can expect more videos. I will be putting out a new video every month for the rest of the year, and I am also working on booking shows within the next few months – so be on the look out for that. I have already started working on my new mixtape, “Revenge of the Left Out Kid,” which will be out February 31,2015. With that, I also have the “left out kids” shirts out now. If you would like a shirt go to my website www.2millie.com and get that!
