Entertwine: Could you tell us a bit about each members’ musical background? How did the members of LEL Brothas meet and begin writing music and performing together? What is the significance of the group’s moniker?
The LEL Brothas is made of 3 members. DJ Clone, Nytmare and CB5. DJ Clone was a well known club DJ in California and Arizona. Nytmare was a lyricist from California and CB5 from Clevland. DJ Clone and Nytmare met at a house party in Arizona, where they had both relocated to. They found out they were both musicians so they started collaborating together. CB5 was a radio host and was hosting an awards show titled “Ghetto Pass.” He met the “LEL Brothas” through mutual friends and became the “LEL step Brotha.”
What can you tell us about the music scene of Prescott Valley, Arizona? Could you tell us about some of the most exciting and interesting live performances the group has been a part of, both in your hometown and around the world?
Its always a pleasure to go back to the town where we started our musical career. Even though its a small city, some of our most passionate fans reside in Prescott Valley. We went from doing shows in bars with 2 people to performing at the largest venue in Northern Arizona “Tim’s Toyota Center.” It was a true from the bottom to the top experience and we will never forget our original fans for supporting us all of these years.
What experiences and events influenced the writing and recording of your upcoming album “Pandemic”? Could you tell us about each of the featured tracks? How does this new album differ from or expand on material you’ve released previously?
With each album we release we believe in blowing away the previous. “From the Fresh out the Root” to the “Epidemic” the difference was crazy. We have the same planned for the “Pandemic.” We have released 2 songs thus far 1. “Mr. My Way” which the music video was shot in Cork, Ireland with Epic Productions and released with ThisIs50.com The second song was titled “Last Call” and was a tribute to the 19 fallen Granite Mountain Hotshots. The tribute was especially important to us, as our lead singer DJ Clone previously was a Prescott Hotshot and fought on many fires with the fallen crew.
What went into the making of the music video for ‘Mr. My Way’? The video was filmed in Cork, Ireland at Black Rock Castle, correct? What was it like working with Epic Productions to bring this project to life? You also released a music video for your song ‘Last Call’ as a tribute to the Granite Mountain Hotshots, correct?
In Ireland the top production company, hands down, is Epic Productions. They took our idea and made it a reality. From filming in a ancient castle, to procuring the only Rolls Royce Phantom in Ireland, Epic Productions truly delivered. As with our music, we take our videos seriously. We don’t just release cookie cutter music with the 3 scene standard music video. We believe in telling a story with our music and taking people through this story with our videos. With the LEL Brothas your part of the experience, not just an observer.
Aside from promoting your album (once it is released), what does the remainder of 2015 hold in store for LEL Brothas? Does the group have any upcoming performances?
We have many national and international tour dates planned for 2015. Our plan is to finish Pandemic and prepare our documentary, which has been filmed since 2007, worldwide. There are big things in store this year so get ready! LEL Nation Stand Up! for more information visit: www.LELBrothas.com
