What inspired you to pursue a career in music? What is the significance of your stage name?

Ive always loved music! I would pretend when I was younger that I was the one writing or performing the music. So I was hanging out with my friend Derrick who was in a band he asked me to listen to some of their stuff, so I did then gave my input on things started writing lyrics to their stuff then boom. Became a musician. My friend Derrick told me to use the name Manic Phase. I had 0 idea about what to call myself then I was like feelin the name so it kinda stuck. I think its too late now to change it anyway haha.

What was it like growing up in Bolivar, Ohio? Do you spend a lot of time in and around Cleveland? What is the music scene of your hometown like compared to the scenes in nearby Akron and Cleveland?

It was alright growing up here, I just always wanted more because its such a small town and not very open to new things. Its hard to be a rapper here because its not too big of a scene for it here. Like I am pioneering the rap shit here. There is not much diversity here so that’s probably why. I love being in Cleveland as much as possible. I really used to hang out when I was younger. I would perform a lot at the old venue Peabody’s. That’s still one of the best places to perform like ever. I am usually in Cleveland to visit family or to go to a concert or event up there. The music scene here is non existent it is pretty upsetting.

What the recording process like for your debut release? Did you collaborate with a number of producers to bring this project to fruition? Have you been writing the lyrics featured in some of these songs for a long time?FUJI4544

This project basically took a year to get done. I think 11 months almost. A lot of the producing came from my main producer Derrick and my brother JugHead (JugHead Productions) on my song “Dripin” the beat was actually from MStacks. It was great to work with him because of all the other great artist he has worked with. I did have a song with Doobie Bandz, but things just didn’t end up happening and it was really upsetting because I really love his work. My writing is so rough. Like 99% of the time I have writers block, but that 1% Ill write several songs or just free write verses and stash them for if I should need them for inspiration or to steal a line or two for other songs that I am doing.

What inspired the album’s title? What inspired the visual presentation of the album?

The name happened in the car with my brother, Budders. Originally the album was going to be “ImManicPhase”, but I wanted something cooler. He recommended naming it a specific antidepressant drug but then I decided just naming it “Antidepressant” because of my rap name and such. I have two covers actually. One is for physical the other is digital. I knew I wanted pills on the cover kinda something like Eminem’s “Relapse” if you notice the track list is a prescription sheet. Its pretty cool.

Do you have plans at this time to make a music video for any of the album’s featured tracks?

I made one for “Spurs” its on my youtube account. Yeah I want to soon. Its just hard to do it and to make the best product. Ill make one soon Im not when. I want to make two before the year is over.

Who are your biggest musical influences? Why?

Like rap wise Eminem, Kanye, and Tyler the Creator. I think they speak to me the most me through rap music. They all have been very instrumental to rap music they are just so amazing. I hope I could end up ¼ as talented as they all are. The best musician hands down though is MJ. Hes the best not argument. King of Pop.

Do you have any favorite activities or hobbies that you enjoy outside of music?

I am always hanging with the guys when I can. They are the first people to hear my new shit when I make it or anything new with Manic Phase. I own a PS4 so I play that when I can Love me some 2k and Madden. Listen to all kinds of different music and watch movies a lot also.

What is your favorite social networking platform? Why?

Twitter, cause its funny. People are hilarious online, also it can be very informative like for news and sports

What does 2015 hold in store for Manic Phase? Do you have any upcoming performances scheduled to showcase your new music?

Hopefully a lot! I know just as much as you guys do. Im just trying to get my name out there more. Hopefully make a lot of new fans here soon! I have a show in March at a club in Akron. Always looking for more chances to have shows!
